Sacred Heart Primary School, Mosman
School Playground Master Plan and Playground Construction, Stages I, II, & III
During our initial site visit to the Sacred Heart playgrounds, we saw concrete and asphalt – a modern version of the urban school playground of the 1960s. We also met one of the most determined and committed parent representatives we had encountered in 20 years of such meetings. This playground was going to change, and it did!
Our School Playground Master Plan process included consultation with teachers, parents and the Year 6 students. From one student came this simple comment that became our main design parameter, “Everything is grey. We need colour.”
Upon completion of the design process, the project was divided into achievable stages based on budget and need. The Infants Courtyard became Stage I; Military Road playground and sandpit: Stage II; followed by Stage III: the upgrade of gym equipment and resurfacing of the main hard court area.
Finally the completion of building works at the school will see new school signage on Military Road, more colour and the construction of a passive seating area for the senior students.
Budget: more than $150,000.00 over three stages of work.
